The gift of sight - May 4 2006

ImageI had a beautiful moment this morning. It's spring time here in Wisconsin and words are not enough to describe the splendor and beauty. I will still try my best to pen down what I have been able to "see and perceive" of Mother Nature...

I have heard of the Cherry Blossoms in the Mother's writings (Aurobindo Ashram), during her stay in Japan. Here's what's been written of it:

The Cherry-Tree Experience

The Mother had many interesting experiences in Japan. In one of them she completely identified herself with the consciousness of a cherry-tree:

"A deep concentration seized on me, and I perceived that I was identifying myself with a single cherry-blossom, then through it with all cherry-blossoms, and, as I descended deeper in the consciousness, following a stream of bluish force, I became suddenly the cherry-tree itself, stretching towards the sky like so many arms its innumerable branches laden with their sacrifice of flowers. Then I heard distinctly this sentence:

Thus hast thou made thyself one with the soul of the cherry-trees and so thou canst take note that it is the Divine who makes the offering of this flower-prayer to heaven.

When I had written it, all was effaced; but now the blood of the cherry-tree flows in my veins and with it flows an incomparable peace and force. What difference is there between the human body and the body of a tree? In truth, there is none: the consciousness which animates them is identically the same.

Then the cherry-tree whispered in my ear :

"It is in the cherry-blossom that lies the remedy for the disorders of the spring."

I've always wondered what it would be like to see a Cherry tree in it's full blossom and be able to simply see the external beauty of it. I live on the 2nd floor and there is an apple tree that peeps in and covers my entire window... and there I saw it blossom and bloom with pretty pink and purple flowers and I was only reminded of the Mother's description of the Cherry blossom. The apple and cherries belong to the same family among plants and wondered if this is how the cherry-blossom would also look like? For what ever it is, I am thankful for the tree that fills my mornings with Peace and I see her as a beautiful child filled with laughter and joy and it spreads around to everyone who sees it.

Then there are the Sleepy-willows, tall and majestic, yet they have this calming and nurturing feel, just like a wise old grandmother.

And then... there are these yellow flowers, growing in the wild filling up the green of the grass. Vast stretches of yellow and green, like rivers of flowers flowing heavenward.

And then... you look up and there are different shades of green and hues of yellow among the trees, for they are all blooming to create the season that 'we call Spring'.

In between them are the trees covered in white, like someone had splashed an old man's gray beard all over them and then there are some covered all in a bright purple - a treat to the human eye and the soul that would bring out the child in them.

The Sun is shining bright and grand in His Glory, warming the earth and our souls, sending in a certain kind of energy that rejuvinates the Body, Mind and Soul... and heals all wounds external and internal.

The sky is a bright blue, with the clouds sailing in... and there is Light and radiance all around... the breezes floating free... tenderly wrapping around Mother Earth...

And then there is western classical music... and it all made sense... Now I know for sure that this is the Queen of all forms of artistic expression... 'coz I saw that Mother Nature seemed to dance with every note and the only thought that occured to me was... "Thank you for the gift of sight and perception, and for a healthy body, due to which my Soul is able to sing and dance along."

This body is a gift. This is our primary channel to reach our Goal in this birth as humans... in the physical world. It is our primary duty to take care of this boat as we sail through the journey of Life... and let every single moment of our day be filled with gratitude for what's been given to us - the Gift of Vision.

With Much Love... Image
